Beginning September 1, it will become more difficult to receive medical approval and hours of care for New York State Community Medicaid. The good news is that Care Answered has been prepared for this and is committed to ensuring that you are informed and have advocacy that works.
What is the New Standard of Care Need for Community Medicaid Eligibility.
Applicants must require “limited assistance with physical maneuvering (guided maneuvering of limbs, physical guidance without taking weight)” for at least three activities of daily living. If the applicant has a diagnosis of dementia, they must require “supervisory assistance (oversight/cueing)” with at least two activities of daily living.
What are Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)?
- Ambulating/walking
- Personal hygiene
- Dressing
- Eating
- Bathing
- Transferring on and off toilet/toilet use
- Turning and positioning in bed
From now on, stand alone Level I, or housekeeping (cleaning home, preparing meals etc.) will no longer be counted in hours or approval for Community Medicaid Managed Long Term Care. However, if you have already been assessed or receive Community Medicaid you should be grandfathered in.
